Burglary Attempt

The following is from a neighbor in Bayside Acres. This was also sent on our email list. If you did not receive it by email and wish to be on the Bayside Acres HOA email list (you must live in the subdivision), please notify the webmaster.

I just wanted to alert our community (maybe my wife has already contacted you and maybe you have covered this – forgive me, I’ve been away). We live on Manzanita Ave. in Bayside Acres, and on Friday night someone attempted to break in to our house while my wife and daughter were sleeping. Fortunately the chain on our door held and was enough to provide deterrent to move on and nothing further happened. We made ourselves an easy target by not leaving lights on and now are working on making improvements to lighting and security measures.

I guess it’s been reported that there have been a rash of burglaries lately. The sheriff indicated that one suspect was caught in the Dominican area thanks to some citizens’ surveillance camera footage and police patrol. However, the suspect indicated that there are several more perps out there doing the same thing. This young individual, in his 20s, came over from San Francisco by bus (no getaway car), roamed the streets by foot, targeting wealthy neighborhoods (Dominican, Glenwood, Peacock Gap, etc.) seeking easy targets (open doors, unlit homes, both day and night) – then departed back to SF by bus. They have been targeting jewelry, gold in particular to melt down and sell by the ounce.

So keep an eye on your neighborhoods for unfamiliar passers-by and keep your house as secure as possible and well-lit!
