PPt. San Pedro Road Speed Limit Change Effective Sept. 1

This is a to inform you that effective September 1, 2016 the speed limit on most parts of Point San Pedro Road will be increasing from 35 mph to 40 mph. The section of the Roadway between Mooring Road and Aqua Vista Road will remain at 35 mph. The speed limit in front of San Pedro School will be 25 mph when children are present.

The increase in speed limit is supported by the Point San Pedro Road’s Coalition’s HOA Traffic and Safety Working Group, the San Pedro School Traffic and Safety Working Group, the City and County Public Works Departments, the San Rafael Police Department and the California Highway Patrol.

The major benefit of this change is that the new Roadway speed limit is now in compliance with State law which mandates the methodology for setting speed limit and for the first time in many years the San Rafael Police and the California Highway Patrol will be able to enforce the speed limit using radar. Both the San Rafael Police Department and the California Highway Patrol are committed to providing regular enforcement.

The City is working closely with the County to install electronic signage on the Point San Pedro Road within the next several days informing Roadway drivers of this change and noting that enforcement will begin immediately upon the implementation of the new speed limit.

The Coalition’s Roadway Committee will work closely with City and County Public Works Department staffs and the San Rafael Police Department in monitoring the results of the new speed limit and the related ability to now have active enforcement of speed limits on the Road.

The Point San Pedro Road Traffic and Safety HOA Working and San Pedro School Working Groups plan to meet later this Fall to review, assess and discuss the impact of new speed limit and related enforcement on the Roadway.
