The Board consists of 9 board members. Our subdivision roughly divides into three areas that go by the labels of Bayview Drive, Main/Manzanita and Chicken Point. Three board members represent each of these three areas. The term of office is three years and the terms are staggered such that one board member’s position from each area expires each year.

David Tattersall
President
David and his wife Nancy have lived in Bayside Acres since 1992. David qualified as a chartered surveyor and worked throughout the UK before emigrating from England to the USA in 1979. David qualified as a member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and established a commercial real estate appraisal business based in San Francisco and San Rafael. David retired his business in 2020. David has been involved in the community, participating in the San Rafael General Plan vision committees, served on the board of Directors at Marin Tennis Club, Board of Directors and Chair of the Marin Forum, Chair Person of the west branch of the Northern California Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, and participated in the pilot mentor programs of the Aircraft Owner’s and Pilot’s Association.

Laurie Favaro

Laurie has been a resident of Bayside Acres since 1988. Laurie and her husband, Richard, raised their two children on Main Drive where they quickly came to cherish the friendliness and natural beauty of our unique neighborhood. She has taken an active role in the community since her children were young, serving yearly on the Site Leadership Teams of Glenwood Elementary, Davidson Middle School, and San Rafael High, campaigning for school board members, and collaborating with other Bayside Acres residents to protect our local wetlands. Laurie has a master’s degree in counseling and was self-employed for 20 years as an independent college counselor, where she had the pleasure of getting to know hundreds of students and families throughout Marin. As a member of the BANA board of directors for more than a decade, she is committed to strengthening the support, safety, and beauty of our community.

Joe Tyszkiewicz
Treasurer
Joe and his wife Suzanne Sarra have lived in Bayside Acres since before 1990. Joe retired in 2023 after more than 55 years in the insurance industry, having served on the Executive Committee at Blue Shield of California. He founded and chaired Health Care 2000, a varied group of decision makers including CALPERS, Los Angeles Unified School District and the UAW focused on the future of the delivery of health care with an emphasis on access to quality medical care at an affordable and predictable cost to employers and their employees. Currently, Joe is an insurance broker with USI specializing in employee benefits for employers with 50 to 2000 employees His wife Suzanne has her own company, Sarra Visions, staging homes for sale throughout Marin. They have two sons residing in southern California who attended Glenwood Elementary and San Rafael High and one grandson attending high school in Coronado, CA.

Stuart Brown
Board Member
Stu is a native of southeastern PA. He earned a BA in Chemistry at Williams College (1963) and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Stanford University (1968). Stu joined Chevron in 1969 and spent 30 years developing and marketing lubricants and lubricant additives and is now retired. He is co-founder of Saint Mark’s School in San Rafael (now Mark Day School), a member of the American Chemical Society and the California Grand Jurors’ Association. He has been married for 56 years to Jean and has two grown children.

Bob Lenz
Board Member
Bob serves as the CEO of the Buck Institute for Education, now known as PLBWorks, a local non-profit that works with schools across the United States and the world to implement Project Based Learning. Before PLBWorks, He co-founded a network of innovative high schools in the Bay Area called Envision Schools. Bob began his career in education as a teacher at Drake High School in San Anselmo. Bob and his wife, Cathy, along with their college student children, Evelyn and Brendan (and Cherie their Guide Dog for the Blind breeder dog), moved to Chicken Point in 2017 and fell in love with the neighbors and neighborhood. His intention in joining the BANA Board was to give back and serve our neighbors and the neighborhood that has welcomed them so warmly. You might recognize him as the guy Stand Up Paddling out on the bay all year round.

Art Landesman
Board Member
Art is a San Rafael native who grew up in the West End. He and his wife, Karen, moved to Bayside Acres-Chicken Point in 1977. They soon fell in love with the area’s natural beauty. Art had a 40 year career in Equipment Leasing, working mostly in the San Francisco financial district. He retired in 2015. Art and Karen have two daughters, both married and also living in San Rafael. He has three grandchildren who he sees often. He now spends his time with the grandchildren, traveling, doing odd jobs around the house, hiking with friends and taking long walks in the area with Karen.

Larry Harris
Board Member
Larry is a retired college professor and computer entrepreneur. He received his Ph.D. in computer Science at Cornell in 1972. He taught for 10 years at Dartmouth and was a Visiting Professor at MIT. He was the founder of Artificial Intelligence Corporation, which went public in 1990 and Linguistic Technology Corporation, whose product was a forerunner of SIRI and ChatGPT. He is the co-author of the Bantam book AI Enters the Marketplace. Larry and his wife Marsha have lived in Bayside Acres since 2013 and have 3 children and 7 grandsons living in the area. His interests are golf, hiking, cruising and chess, particularly computer chess.
