Your Firewise Team is working with FIRESafe Marin to alert you to new and existing fire safety regulations, upcoming free Chipper Days, grant opportunities, and much more. 

  • Chipper Days in 2023
    • There will be 5 Chipper Days in 2023
    • Pre-registration will open on March 15th. We will send you a link when it is available.
    • Residents will have the ability to apply for an extra-large pile pickup.
    • Residents will be able to “drop a pin” on their exact pile location and check on their reservation status through the FireSafe Marin website. 
  • New Firewise Tracking – No More Forms To Fill Out!
    • Thanks to all our neighbors who have diligently logged their hours spent and/or paid clearing defensible space and hardening their homes, Bayside Acres was re-certified as a Firewise USA® neighborhood this year.
    •  Our big news is that we no longer have to track those expenditures. FIRESafe Marin’s new approach is to focus on defensible space data collection based on our use of green refuse cans. Firewise has a formula for measuring that usage so you don’t have to keep track yourselves.
    • Home hardening remains critical, but will be tracked in the future via fire department inspections and also by your insurance company should you wish to apply for discounts.
  • Grants Available
    • PG&E is offering up to $100,000 for community fuel reduction projects within 1,000 feet of power lines in Marin County. Each Firewise Community like ours within Marin can apply for up to $10,000.
    • Criteria:
      • To qualify for the grant project, proposals must be:
        1. Within 1,000 feet of a PG&E electric asset, such as overhead electric wires. All projects should note and describe proximity to PG&E overhead assets. 
        2. Focused on fuel reduction such as shaded fuel break, fuel break, ingress/egress access roads for chipping, etc. 
    • The Firewise Team will evaluate and submit qualifying project proposals to FIRESafe Marin, who will evaluate them for the PG&E grant.
