With great sadness, we share the news of the passing of Ogden Hamilton, a pillar of our Bayside Acres Community. Ogden and his wife Jo became part of our community in August 2014. All who knew and worked with him appreciated his commitment to our subdivision.
As a Board member of our Bayside Acres Neighborhood Association (BANA), he played a pivotal role in establishing our nationally recognized Firewise Committee. Ogden worked tirelessly to keep all of us in Bayside Acres safe. He drew up detailed plans to reduce wildfire danger to our community on the edge of thousands of acres of open space and a state park. He convinced the San Rafael and Marin fire departments to clear the Bayview Fire Trail, remove several eucalyptus on Main and Bayview drives, and mobilize neighbors to clear brush in the Chicken Point marsh area. He created and served on action committees to oppose AT&T’s 4G/5G installation plans on Bayview Drive and to enforce noise ordinances from loud electronic bands meeting at St.Luke’s Church.
Many will remember seeing Ogden, Jo, and his rescue dog, Mocha, walking the Bayview Fire Road once or twice daily. He often carried clippers or a shovel to remove encroaching foliage and trip hazards.
We were fortunate to have had Ogden as our neighbor, and all who had the privilege of knowing him will deeply feel his absence. His contributions to our community were invaluable, particularly in wildfire safety and community activism. We are forever grateful for his dedication and service.
