Over the past several months (the previous break was in February), there have been breaks in the sewer pipe connecting the Beach Drive sewer pump to the sewer main. The breaks have resulted in sewage spills into the Beach Drive marsh. You will have seen signs posted around the marsh warning residents of such.
Ms. Doris Toy, District Manager of the San Rafael Sanitation District stated that the most recent line break (09-06-19) is currently being repaired and is anticipated to be completed by this evening or Monday. In addition, Ms. Toy indicated that senior engineering staff are working on plans for the expedited replacement of the entire line from the sewer pump up to the main sewer line under Pt. San Pedro Road.
An undetermined amount of raw sewage has spilled into the Beach Drive marsh with the current line breach and residents are warned to stay clear of the marsh and keep children and pets away from the marsh until the signs are no longer posted, which will be determined by the County Health Services.
