Pt. San Pedro Road Repavement Update

The repaving is completed and the work to “raise iron” is underway. That is where all manholes and such are raised and the surround is resurfaced to be flush with the new roadway. The final step will be striping which is scheduled for July 14, 2014. Of concern to us and our neighbors was the plan to convert the current Class III bike lanes to Class II in many places along Pt. San Pedro Road. This was originally to include both sides of the roadway from San Pedro School to just past the Quarry entrance. Class III permits parking while Class II does not.

This would have presented serious parking issues for our residents on Pt. San Pedro Road in Chicken Point and the area across the street from Chicken Point. In addition, no parking at the Village at Loch Lomond Marina could negatively impact residents in adjacent developments (The Cove, Bayside Acres and especially Loch Lomond) given the addition of 81 residences and significantly improved bayside recreational facilities. No parking on Pt. San Pedro Road at the Marina could cause parking to overflow into these residential areas.

After input from the San Pedro Road Coalition and residents and serious discussions with the City and County, it has been agreed to keep Class III bike designations for all of the Bay side of Pt. San Pedro Road from San Pedro School to the pocket park across from Main Drive. The opposite side of the road along Chicken Point will also remain Class III. It was agreed that a parking study would be conducted after the Marina is built out and occupied to determine if Class II bike lanes could be implemented.
