The only item on the agenda this year was the election of new Board members. At the BAHOA Board meeting on March 20, 2018, it was agreed to have a “virtual” annual meeting with voting by mail-in ballot, as has been done for the past three years. An announcement of the meeting was emailed to homeowners (or hand delivered to those without email) by March 22,announcing a virtual meeting, and a) inviting candidates for open Board positions and b) soliciting any issues pertinent to Bayside Acres which should be brought to the Board and/or should be discussed at an in-personmeeting.
The meeting notice and ballot were distributed by hand or regular mail to all homeowners by April 8. Homeowners were requested to return their ballots by April 22, along with 2018/19 dues of $10 per parcel, in a pre-addressed envelope to Secretary Stuart Brown. Payment of dues is required to vote.
The BAHOA directors whose terms were expiring were Stuart Brown (Main and Manzanita area), David Tattersall (Chicken Point area), and Alan Schaevitz (Bayview Drive area). The three incumbents had agreed to run again. No other interest in a Board position was received from the March 22 meeting announcement.
The deadline for returning ballots was April 22. As of May 4, 42 dues-paid ballots were received.
The results for the Board election were:
- Bayview Region: 40 votes for AlanSchaevitz.
- Chicken Point: 40 votes for DavidTattersall.
- Main / Manzanita: 40 votes for StuartBrown.
There were no write-ins. Three ballots voted for only one candidate. Three ballots abstained for all three candidates.
Balloting was as follows:
Street | Voted | Total Parcels | % Voted |
Bayview Dr. | 15 | 43 | 35 |
Bayview Dr. S. | 0 | 2 | 0 |
Beach Dr. | 3 | 9 | 33 |
Inverness | 0 | 2 | 0 |
Main Dr. | 8 | 24 | 33 |
Manzanita Ave. | 4 | 13 | 30 |
Marine Dr. | 2 | 10 | 20 |
Oak Dr. | 5 | 32 | 16 |
Pt. San Pedro Rd. | 8 | 28 | 29 |
TOTALS | 45 | 163 | 28 |
Based on these results, Brown moved by email that Tattersall, Schaevitz, and Brown be elected to three year terms ending in 2021. Brown made a second motion that the current Board officers (President – David Tattersall; Vice President – Rick Hopper; Secretary – Stuart Brown; Treasurer – Mary Sinclair) be retained. Both motions carried 7-0 by email.
- Note 1: Mary Sinclair agreed by email to continue as Treasurer, even though she now lives in Novato. Her son, Andrew, and daughter-in-law, Amy, now own Mary’s old house at 38 BeachDrive.
- Note 2: Two Board members have not yet paid dues for 2018-19 and so were not eligible to vote on themotions.
Seven ballots included concerns that the voters brought to the attention of the Board:
- The Porters at 100 Bayview Drive:
- “The ugly signage of the church [St Luke’s] at Bayview and Pt. San Pedro. It now has a PVC water pipe holding signs in addition to the mish-mash of other signs.
- “The light at Pt. San Pedro and Lochinvar. It seems to be hyper-sensitive to any car waiting on Lochinvar, stopping Pt. San Pedro traffic repeatedly in a short span oftime.”
- Ann Goforth at 225 Bayview Drive: “I would like two road signs on Bayview:’
- Slow: Pedestrians / dogs!! — People speed + there have been manyclose calls.
- Dead End: Road is dead end. People think they can find another way out, often trying to illegally use our easement.
- Susan Lynn at 140 Bayview Drive : “Speed of traffic on Bayview Dr. as well as roadside parking.”
- Fran Freedman at 130 Bayview Drive: “Traffic coming into central San Rafael exit from 101. Double turn lane onto 2nd Ave?”
- Peter Stack at 51 Beach Drive: “We would appreciate it if the ivy on the wall in the median strip nearest to Beach Drive be trimmed downregularly.”
- Dianne Fruin at 123 Oak Drive: “Perhaps the community – especially Chicken Point – might want to address the Scotch Broom that is growing around the lagoon / marsh. It is SO invasive. Maybe a neighborhood team would be able to tackle it?”
- Bert Thunstrom at 45 Manzanita: “Removal of all remaining Eucalyptus on Main Drive: They are a constant threat of losing limbs and are a firehazard.”
As of May 17, the Association had 50 paid members for 2018/19.
Respectfully submitted,
Stuart Brown
Secretary
