Marin County has improved the culverts under Main Drive
During the January rains, the culverts under Main Drive, which conduct storm runoff from Manzanita and upper Main Drive to the Glenwood marsh, were overwhelmed, leading to flooding and silting on Main Drive near the Manzanita intersection. Stuart Brown arranged for County Public Works to inspect the area on April 12, 2006. A follow-up meeting was held on August 18, 2006 with Larry Lewis, the Senior Road Maintenance Supervisor for the County Public Works Department.

Recently, the culverts were replaced and upsized from a 12” to 18”. The old pipe was very rusted and collapsed to a point that it was virtually nonfunctional. This new pipe will solve all of the problems of flooding of the past. A catch basin was not installed at the outlet end across the road because it was determined that wasn’t needed. The County crew will also reditch the inlet ditch up and around the corner and place a small earth berm around the same corner at Manzanita which will contain the water in the ditch. The water will, therefore, not cross the road making the catch basin unnecessary. The culvert system at the end of Main Drive will be cleaned to insure its maximum functionality.
